Mo. Supreme Court reviews law on sexual businesses

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri Supreme Court is considering a challenge to a state law that imposes restrictions on strip clubs, adult video stores and other adult businesses.

The law requires sexually oriented businesses to close by midnight. It also bans full nudity, alcohol and touching between semi-nude employees and customers. The law has been challenged by several people and businesses in the adult entertainment industry.

Missouri's high court examined the case Wednesday.

Critics contend the law violates free expression rights and that the Legislature did not follow proper procedures when it passed the measure.

Supporters say sexually-oriented businesses can lead to property crime, prostitution and drug use. They say the law targets those negative secondary effects and does not restrict free speech rights.
