Eugene shooting investigation continues

The case of a shooting which led to the death of a Eugene man last Friday is being forwarded on to the Cole County Prosecutor’s Office for a review of possible criminal charges being filed.

Wednesday afternoon, Cole County Sheriff Greg White put out a press release saying no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting that led to the death of Caleb J.J. Crabtree, 28.

He said his department is still awaiting an autopsy and toxicology reports from the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office which take time to complete.

“We interviewed the shooter, we interviewed witnesses and we didn’t feel an arrest should be made at this time,” White said.

Details of what exactly happened have not been released by the sheriff’s department, other than deputies got an emergency call at 5:52 p.m., Friday, to respond to a shooting at 16803 Missouri 17.

White said Crabtree was found dead at the scene and did not own the property.

Why is it taking so long to make decisions which should be cut and dried. Families need to get on with their life.
