Your Opinion: Fellowship offers forum

Dear Editor:

Continuing our discussion of "offering solutions," I will pose a question. If we "vote those irresponsible people out of office," is this a solution? Whom would we vote in?

The W. Clement Stone, Napolean Hill book, "Success Through a Positive Mental/ Attitude" offers my oft-repeated suggestion, "Keep your mind on what you want and off what you don't want." It sounds simple. It takes practice.

I have observed a well-respected local author get caught in this same past-tense trap. Yes! It is good to study history. No! It is not good to get our mind stuck there. We need to learn to see beyond.

When minds come together, in a spirit of cooperation, creative solutions can result. "Win-win thinking" can result. This letter-writing forum is a good start, We need to go further.

Our Unitarian Universalist Fellowship offers such an opportunity. Before our worship service, each Sunday, we have Adult Forum Discussion. Current issues and other topics are discussed. Everybody gets to talk. Nobody may talk too much. "Liberal" and "conservative" views are brought forward.

I thank the News Tribune for printing these letters. It is fascinating to observe how other people think. Hopefully, some century in the future, we might better learn to work together toward common goals.
