Barnes vows independent review of waste, fraud
Friday, October 28, 2011
Freshman state Rep. Jay Barnes said Thursday his new interim committee will “do a broad investigation into tax credit authorizations in general, and the background checks that go into them.”
House Speaker Steve Tilley on Wednesday named Barnes, R-Jefferson City, as chairman of a special “Interim Committee on Government Oversight and Accountability.”
Tilley, R-Perryville, charged the committee with investigating waste, fraud and abuse in state government — starting with Mamtek, a company which promised to create jobs in Moberly but, so far, has failed even to complete construction or start operations.
