Court upholds $1M award for St. Louis salvage yard

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A Missouri appeals court has upheld a $1 million award for a St. Louis woman whose salvage yard was taken for a redevelopment project.

A three-judge panel of the Eastern District Court of Appeals on Tuesday sided with Opal Henderson, who lost her salvage yard in downtown St. Louis.

Court records indicate the property was declared blighted and was condemned in 2006. The salvage yard had been located near Interstates 55 and 44 for more than 60 years and was established before zoning regulations.

Jurors in St. Louis concluded that just compensation for Henderson's property was $1,009,000.

The judgment was appealed by the Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority of the city of St. Louis.
