Man gets 34 years in prison after fatal DWI

CAMERON, Mo. (AP) - A northwest Missouri man with a history of alcohol-related driving offenses was sentenced to 34 years in prison for an accident that killed a 31-year-old woman.

Frederick Thornton of Cameron was sentenced Monday for second-degree murder and felony driving while intoxicated.

Prosecutors say Thornton failed to yield at a red light on U.S Highway 69 near Cameron on Jan. 28. He hit a car driven by 31-year-old Laura J. Fisher, fatally injuring her. Thornton jumped out of his truck and ran.

The 32-year-old Thornton had four driving while intoxicated convictions before the accident.
