Special prosecutor named in case against policewoman
Friday, November 11, 2011
A special prosecutor has been appointed to look into an accident case involving an off-duty Jefferson City police officer in October.
On Thursday, Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson asked Presiding Judge Pat Joyce to make an appointment. She later chose Osage County Prosecutor Amanda Grellner to handle the case.
Jefferson City Prosecutor Brian Stumpe had transferred the case involving Officer Rachael Barnard, 35, last week, because the property damage from the accident totaled more $1,000. Missouri law makes the crime Barnard is accused of a possible felony, which city courts have no jurisdiction to handle.

Why not appoint Rassmusson to do it?
