I-70 bridge over Missouri River to be repaired

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Missouri highway officials have awarded a $63 million contract to repair an Interstate 70 bridge over the Missouri River in suburban St. Louis.

Renovation of the Blanchette Bridge could begin as soon as January under the contract awarded Wednesday by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission to Walsh Construction Co. of Chicago.

The Blanchette Bridge was built in 1958 and carries westbound traffic from St. Louis County into St. Charles County. The project will replace the entire five-lane driving surface, as well as the truss sections and other parts of the bridge.

The contract allows the bridge to be closed to traffic for 12 months, and all work must be complete by April 2014.
