High school student hoping concert raises funds for tornado victims

Jefferson City High School’s Jason Bangert plays in the school’s symphonic, marching and jazz bands. So when he brainstormed with his father about what he could do for the tornado-ravaged city of Joplin, the answer was obvious.
Bangert, who plays trumpet, contacted the school’s director of bands, the Chamber of Commerce and an organizer of Thursday Night Live, and the wheels were set in motion.
He’s recruiting volunteer band members to play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday before the first Thursday Night Live concert in downtown Jefferson City.
After the half-hour show, donations that are collected will benefit Joplin High School, where the walls are still standing but little else.
