HAZELWOOD, Mo. (AP) — A school resource officer is off the job in a suburban St. Louis district after his revolver discharged while he was cleaning it.
Officials say there were no injuries when the gun went off around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Hazelwood East High School. KMOV-TV reports the bullet went through an office wall and into the nurses’ station.
The officer remains on duty since no one was hurt, but he’ll no longer serve at Hazelwood East. He’s a five-year veteran of the St. Louis County police force, which is conducting an internal investigation.
The discharge is being called accidental, but it’s not clear when in the cleaning process the revolver went off.
