Balloon sinuplasty offers faster, easier relief on an outpatient basis

There is a new procedure that offers less down time and pain for chronic sinus sufferers.

Dr. Reese Thompson, JCMG Ear, Nose and Throat, said that about 6 million to 10 million people in the United States suffer with chronic sinus problems. While 80 percent can control their symptoms with medications, there are other, more severe cases that require surgical intervention.

"About 400,000 have to have the surgery," he said. An additional 1 million decline to have the surgery done because of the pain associated, length of down time and invasiveness of the procedure.
