Guardsmen rescue 93-year-old from car

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) - Two members of the Missouri National Guard are getting recognition after their rescue of a 93-year-old woman from a flooded roadway along the Black River in Poplar Bluff, a rescue captured on videotape.

Junior Bombard of Ozark and Tim Bridges of Carthage are among more than 760 guardsmen helping to fight the historic flooding in southeast Missouri. On Tuesday, they went to help after the woman was trapped in her car as shetried to cross water-covered Highway 53.

The guardsmen used a winch cable and a safety line to save the woman. She was evaluated by emergency personnel and was not injured.

A Butler County sheriff's deputy videotaped the rescue. The video can be seen at the Missouri National Guard Facebook page, and on YouTube.
