Westphalia man killed in wreck

A Westphalia man was killed in a one-vehicle accident Friday.

Kenneth Eichholz, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Miller County coroner at 7:55 p.m., according to Missouri Highway Patrol reports.

He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Julie Laux, 35, Westphalia, on Missouri 52 west of St. Elizabeth. Carlee Abbott, 6, of Westphalia also was a passenger.

At 6:49 p.m. the vehicle driven by Laux ran off the roadway, and she overcorrected twice before the vehicle overturned. Eichholz was not wearing a seat belt, but Laux and Abbott were.

This is the sixth fatality in 2011 for the patrol's Troop F.

Laux is being held without bond in the Miler County jail and faces several charges, including felony manslaughter, second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, DWI prior offender and careless and imprudent driving.
