Two people arrested after incident involving gun

Two people are in custody awaiting possible charges after police investigated reports of unlawful use of a weapon in Jefferson City.

Police were called around 1:35 p.m. Friday to the area of Lafayette and East McCarty streets where a male subject reportedly was displaying a gun in a threatening manner. Officers at the scene gathered information about the suspect.

A short time later, they saw the suspect running into an apartment complex in the 100 block of Marshall Street. They surrounded the area and waited for a search warrant to be issued.

The police department's SWAT officers served the warrant at the residence and took an 18-year-old male into custody on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon. A 20-year-old male also was arrested for allegedly hindering prosecution in connection with the incident.

Both men were taken to the Cole County Jail and are awaiting possible charges by the prosecuting attorney's office.
