Statewide tornado drill delayed until Thursday

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -The annual Missouri Statewide Severe Weather Drill scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed until Thursday due to the threat of weather in the state. The forecast for Thursday looks much better.

The drill will take place at 1:30 pm.

The National Weather Service and cities' dispatch centers will activate outdoor tornado sirens for about 15 minutes. The drill is to encourage Missourians to practice seeking shelter, or to plan what they would do if a tornado was in the area.

The weather service says 65 tornadoes hit Missouri last year.
