New postage stamp honors Mark Twain
Saturday, June 25, 2011
HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) — A new postage stamp features the face of Mark Twain, and the hometown of the author and humorist is celebrating.
A first-day-of-issue ceremony is Saturday in Hannibal, the northeast Missouri town where Samuel Clemens grew up in the mid-19th century before changing his name to Mark Twain. The ceremony is at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum on Main Street.
The Mark Twain stamp goes on sale nationwide on Saturday as well. It is the 27th stamp in the Literary Arts series.
The stamp shows Twain as an older man with a steamboat in the background.
