Four area golfers are set to compete in the Mo. Amateur Championship

The 104th Missouri Amateur Championship begins today at Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta.

Four area individuals are competing in the field of 162 on the 6,944-yard, par-71 course just east of Washington.

Matt Miller of Eldon returns to the field to try and capture an amateur title. Last year, the former Mustang was the runner-up in the Missouri Amateur Championship to Brad Nurski of St. Louis at Twin Oaks Country Club.

Nurski defeated Miller 2 up to earn his first Missouri Amateur Championship title.

Miller, who finished his senior year at the University of Central Missouri, helped guide the Mules to a third-place finish in the NCAA Division II Championship. Miller also earned All-America honors with a tie for 11th place, posting a three-round score of 2-over par.

Former Helias golfers Michael Huber and Alex Knoll also are competing in the event.

Huber was a runner-up at the Missouri Junior Match Play Championship last week at Eagle Knoll Golf Course.
