Expected flooding ensnares second Mo. River race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A likely summer of flooding on the Missouri River has led to the second rescheduling of an annual canoe and kayak race in recent days.

The Race to the Dome was scheduled for early July on a 26-mile river course from a point south of Columbia to Jefferson City. The nonprofit Missouri River Relief advocacy group announced this week that the race will instead take place in early October on the same route.

The delay follows a similar move by organizers of the yearly Missouri River 340 paddle. That race usually begins in Kansas City, Kan., and heads east to St. Charles, Mo.

Race organizers are moving the event west to the Kansas River and shortening the distance from 340 miles to 150 miles
