St. Elizabeth baseball takes fourth at state

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Every year at every Final Four, regardless of the sport, someone brings up the wisdom of playing third-place games.

After watching Thursday night's Class 1 third-place game at the baseball Final Four, it would be hard to make a case they're a good idea.

Just one day after being an out away from beating La Plata, the eventual state champion, in the semifinals, the St. Elizabeth Hornets took to the field against Oran with the consolation prize on the line.

That didn't appear to be enough of an incentive for the Hornets, who mustered just one hit while falling 10-0 to the Eagles at Meador Park.
