Hospital seeing fewer in-patient, more out-patient visits

Capital Region Medical Center (CRMC) saw a decline of in-patient visits and an increase in out-patient visits over the past year, mirroring a national trend, the hospital's president said on Thursday.

Ed Farnsworth, CRMC's president and CEO, spoke to a packed room at the hospital's Board of Governors meeting. It was the last in a series that included similar meetings in Versailles, Owensville, California and Linn.

In the period between July-April 2010, there were just over 6,000 inpatient admissions, and for the same period in 2011, there were 5,889. In that same 10-month period from 2010 to 2011, visits to the Goldschmidt Cancer Center and other oncology visits saw the most growth, going from 4,139 to 4,945.
