ST. LOUIS - There was a familiar face at the top of the leaderboard after Tuesday's first round of the Missouri Women's Golf Association Amateur Championship.
Defending champion Ellen Port shot a 2-under par 70 to take a two-stroke lead at Bellerive County Club.
Port - who is from St. Louis - leads Drury University golfer Katrina Choate who shot a 72. Choate was last year's runner-up when she lost to Port by three strokes.
McCall Christopher of Indiana State is in third place after shooting a 74 while Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville shot a 75 and is in fourth place.
Ashland's Payton Schooler shot an 87 and finished the round in 30th place. She finished 13th in last year's event.
The second round begins at 7:30 a.m. today. The final round will be played Thursday.
