3 held in connection with homicide at Missouri quarry

MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. (AP) - A woman is being held on murder charges after a Kansas City man was found dead at a quarry in eastern Missouri.

Workers at the Danville Quarry in Montgomery County found the body of 55-year-old Edward W. Jefferson in the parking lot on July 1. An autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound to the head.

KRCG-TV reports that three people, all from Kansas City, were arrested over the weekend in connection with the case.

The Montgomery County sheriff's department says 28-year-old Cassandra Johnston is being held on $500,000 bond on a charge of first-degree murder. The other suspects are charged with vehicle tampering.

Court records did not list a lawyer for Johnston, and a Montgomery County jailer said Johnston could not accept a telephone call Monday.
