St. Louis area man dies in hit-run crash

ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police say a 29-year-old St. Louis man has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.

John Foster Courtney was hit early Monday as he crossed a street in the Grove entertainment district. He died at a hospital late Monday night.

Police told The St. Louis post-Dispatch that the driver of the car left the scene of the crash without stopping. Police later arrested a 24-year-old man and said Tuesday they planned to seek charges.

Courtney played rugby with the St. Louis Crusaders. The team's web site said the group was guest-bartending Sunday night at a nightclub near where Courtney was hit.
