Lady Jays advance in Queen of Hearts Tournament

ST. LOUIS - The Jefferson City Lady Jays held the host school to single digits in every quarter and posted a 49-26 win Friday in the semifinals of the Villa Duchesne Queen of Hearts Tournament.

Villa Duchesne held a 9-6 lead after one quarter, but Jefferson City roared back to take a 22-15 lead at halftime. The Lady Jays then outscored the Saints 20-8 in the third quarter to blow it open. Jefferson City had a 7-3 scoring edge in the final frame.

Monique Townson dropped in 17 points to pace the Lady Jays, who won their eighth straight game. Lauren Coons added 10 points for Jefferson City.

The Lady Jays (14-5) will play for the title at 3:30 p.m. today against the winner of Friday's late game between Cape Girardeau Notre Dame and Kirkwood.
