Monday's NBA Capsules

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Chris Paul made a critical steal with just more than 10 seconds left, David West swished a 17-foot fadeaway with 0.5 on the clock and the New Orleans Hornets pulled out their ninth straight victory, 91-89 over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.

Paul finished with 24 points, nine assists and three steals. West had 20 points for New Orleans, which overcame a 15-point first-half hole and then held Oklahoma City to one basket during the final 4:19.

Kevin Durant scored 22 points for the Thunder but missed all five of his shots in the fourth quarter, including several in the final minutes as the Hornets erased a late four-point deficit with a couple of jumpers by West, who hit New Orleans' final four baskets on jumpers of 16 feet or more.

Spurs 113, Warriors 102

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Manu Ginobili had 20 points and seven assists, and San Antonio endured Tim Duncan's brief injury scare before beating Golden State.

Duncan went down with a left knee injury in the second quarter that had the entire Spurs bench stunned and shaken. He returned to finish with 16 points and seven rebounds, helping San Antonio rebound from a loss to New Orleans and calm any nerves about what initially appeared to be a serious fall.

Tony Parker added 18 points and 11 assists, Antonio McDyess had 14 points and 10 rebounds and the NBA-best Spurs (38-7) cruised to an otherwise stress-free victory that clinched the Western Conference's best record through games of Feb. 6. That means Spurs coach Gregg Popovich will coach the West squad in the All-Star game Feb. 20 at Los Angeles.

David Lee had a season-high 31 points to go with 12 rebounds, and Monta Ellis scored 25 for the Warriors.

Nets 103, Cavaliers 101

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Brook Lopez scored the tiebreaking basket with 1.4 seconds remaining and New Jersey handed Cleveland its 17th straight defeat.

Lopez led the Nets with 28 points and Anthony Morrow scored 16 off the bench. Cleveland's losing streak is its longest since dropping 19 in a row to close the 1981-82 season.

The Cavaliers have lost 21 straight road games, matching the team record set from Jan. 13 to April 14, 2003. Their last road win came in New Jersey on Nov. 9.

The Nets have won three of four since owner Mikhail Prokhorov ended trade talks to acquire Carmelo Anthony from Denver.

Devin Harris had 14 points and 10 assists for New Jersey.

Antawn Jamison scored 26 points to pace the Cavaliers.

Knicks 115, Wizards 106

NEW YORK (AP) - Amare Stoudemire ended a mini-slump with 30 points and New York snapped a six-game losing streak while dropping Washington to 0-21 on the road.

Raymond Felton ended his dismal stretch with 17 points and 15 assists as the Knicks (23-21) avoided falling back to .500 with what would have been their longest skid of the season. They beat Washington for the seventh straight time at Madison Square Garden and sixth in a row overall, sweeping the series for the first time since going 4-0 in 2003-04.

Nick Young scored 22 points for the Wizards, now more than halfway to the NBA's first winless road mark in an 82-game schedule. They are closing in on the longest road skid to open a season, 29 straight losses by the Dallas Mavericks during the 1992-93 season.

Rookie guard John Wall had 18 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, but the Wizards committed 20 turnovers that led to 24 points for the Knicks.

Pistons 103, Magic 96

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Tracy McGrady, Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye each scored 20 points to help Detroit beat Orlando.

The Pistons scored 26 points off 16 Orlando turnovers and shot 50 percent from 3-point range to earn their first victory of the season over the Magic.

Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon added 16 points apiece for Detroit.

Orlando got 21 points off the bench from Ryan Anderson and 20 points and 16 rebounds from Dwight Howard. But the Magic shot poorly from beyond the arc, connecting on just seven of 27 attempts.

The win was the second in a row for Detroit. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Magic.

Bulls 92, Bucks 83

CHICAGO (AP) - Kurt Thomas scored 22 points and Derrick Rose added 21 points and 10 assists to lead Chicago past Milwaukee.

Rockets 129, Timberwolves 125

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Kevin Martin scored 34 points and Shane Battier added a season-high 19 to lead Houston over Minnesota.

Luis Scola added 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Rockets, who beat a Western Conference team for the first time in their last eight tries. Houston's 13 straight wins over Minnesota tie the franchise record for longest winning streak against one opponent.

Kevin Love had 24 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists and Wes Johnson added 19 points for the Timberwolves, who lost their fourth straight overall.

The Rockets made 14 3-pointers, feasting on the tumbling Timberwolves' awful defense. Minnesota entered the night last in the NBA in points allowed and then watched Houston hang 100 in the first three quarters.

Andrea Bargnani scored 29 points and DeMar DeRozan had 25 for the Raptors, whose season-high losing streak reached eight games. The Raptors have dropped five in a row to the Grizzlies.

Toronto's losing streak is its longest since a 10-game slide from March 26 to April 12, 2006.

Jerryd Bayless had 15 points and set career highs with 11 assists and eight rebounds for the short-handed Raptors, who finished 0 for 13 from 3-point range. They failed to make a 3 for the first time in 986 games, a streak that began Feb. 26, 1999, against Minnesota.
