Suspect charged in Columbia trailer parking killing

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A 22-year-old man has been charged in a trailer park killing in Columbia.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reported that Zachariah J. Peterson faces one count each of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of James Leon Porter.

Peterson is jailed in Boone County with bond set at $1 million, cash only.

Witnesses told police that before Tuesday's killing, Peterson had picked the victim up in a sport utility vehicle. The witnesses said the men were going to perform a drug deal.

One witness reported to police that he heard gunshots about an hour later and saw Porter falling from the passenger side of the SUV. The driver then sped away.

A search of Peterson's home yielded a large amount of cash and a felony amount of pot.
