Should a government’s legal powers be used as a redevelopment tool?

It is a phrase that almost always brings about controversy when it is brought up in conversation — eminent domain.
But after the most recent round of suggestions by the Jefferson City Council’s ad hoc committee on the revitalization of Old Town, it is a topic that has received some renewed attention in past weeks.

Let's hope JC doesn't get into eminent domain. How's west half of the 200 block of West McCarty Street looking these days?

it used to be for the public good, now its used for strip malls, shopping centers etc. ED should be used as a last resort. the way things are going, i doubt ED will be used responsibly. the Truman Building got rid of quite few residents back in the day as well. was that worth it? as for 200 block of W. McCarty: ...

How about that eyesore on the 300 block of West McCarty too? The state tore down the old health lab, and left the lot looking like a bomb-ed out construction site. How about cleaning up the rest of the lot, planting grass and landscaping, and if they are going to use it for a parking lot- make them curb and pave a proper parking lot there?
Those two blocks are the main views that visitors to our city get from the expressway, and both of them look terrible- half-torn down, no landscaping, parking on gravel and torn up pavement, etc.
The state and the city are responsible for some of the biggest eyesores in this town, and no one can seem to do anything about it. Don't get me started on the old National Guard base on Industrial, or MSP...

Hey JCLifer, MSP SHOULD stay like that, maybe a little cleaned and renewed but should still stay there. It IS a part of JC's history. Tearing it down would nearly be the death of this town. When it was in operation, it was the oldest working prison west of the Miss River. You want to take that away from our town? As for ED, I do not support it anymore because it's only being used for commercial use. JC needs to step back and take a look at ALL the things they're doing wrong in this town.
