"Any more than six inches of snowfall and we don't have the capacity to store it in that area," said parking and streets director Britt Smith. "Our main focus is the heart of downtown which is the 100 west through 300 east blocks of High Street and 200 block of Madison Street. Our dump trucks take loads from Bobcats and our crews push snow off sidewalks into the streets to be hauled out."

Smith said he believed the last time they had to do this was when there was a 16-inch snow in the winter of 2006.

"We've had five events where snow had to be removed so far this winter," he said. "We average about nine events a year."
