COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - David Lighty scored 18 points and Ohio State wasn't tested in its first game as No. 1, rolling over Iowa 70-48 on Wednesday night.
The Buckeyes (19-0, 6-0 Big Ten) improved to 60-4 when ranked first in The Associated Press poll.
William Buford had 15 points and Jared Sullinger added 13 for the Buckeyes, topping the polls for the first time since the final three weeks of the 2006-07 regular season. That season's team went to the national championship game, losing to defending champion Florida and finishing with a 35-4 record.
Andrew Brommer had 12 points and Bryce Cartwright added 10 for Iowa (7-11, 0-6), playing a ranked team for the fifth time in its last six games.
The Hawkeyes fell to 2-19 against teams ranked No. 1.
No. 4 Duke 92, N.C. State 78
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Nolan Smith scored 22 points for Duke, which avenged last season's surprising road loss to the Wolfpack.
Kyle Singler added 18 points for the Blue Devils (17-1, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), who dominated early to lead by 14 at halftime then turned away a second-half comeback to extend their recent dominance in the series. Duke has won 29 of 34 meetings with N.C. State (11-7, 1-3) since 1995 and improved to 5-2 against Sidney Lowe's Wolfpack.
N.C. State earned a surprisingly easy 88-74 win against the Blue Devils last season in which Tracy Smith scored 23 points and the Wolfpack shot 58 percent. The Blue Devils held the Wolfpack to 22 percent shooting in the first half to build a double-digit lead.
Then, after N.C. State closed within five, Smith led a 7-0 spurt that took back control.
Tracy Smith scored 19 points and freshman point guard Ryan Harrow and Scott Wood both had 15.
No. 6 San Diego St. 68, Air Force 55
SAN DIEGO (AP) - D.J. Gay scored 20 points and Billy White had 10 of his 12 during a decisive 13-3 run, and San Diego State extended the country's longest active winning streak to a school-record 20 games.
The Aztecs (20-0, 5-0 Mountain West) remain one of Division I's three unbeaten teams. They are off until a showdown at conference rival and ninth-ranked BYU next Wednesday night.
Tom Fow scored 21 points for Air Force (10-7, 1-3).
Sophomore forward Kawhi Leonard had 10 points and 10 rebounds for SDSU, his 13th double-double this season and 30th of his career.
Air Force stuck around long enough to make the Aztecs to earn it, which they did over the final 7 1/2 minutes.
SDSU made 11 of 26 3-pointers and outrebounded Air Force 34-20.
No. 10 Texas 81, No. 11 Texas A&M 60
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Jordan Hamilton scored 27 points and Texas snapped Texas A&M's 13-game winning streak.
Freshman Tristan Thompson added 18 points for the Longhorns (15-3, 3-0 Big 12) before limping off with a leg cramp with 4 minutes left in the first meeting of the rivals this season.
Khris Middleton scored 16 points for Texas A&M (16-2, 3-1), which hasn't won in Austin since 2002 and never led in this one.
The Aggies had not lost since a 67-65 loss to Boston College on Nov. 25.
Texas shot 58 percent from the field and the worst free throw shooting team in the Big 12 was 19 of 22 from the line.
No. 14 Purdue 63, Penn St. 62
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - JaJuan Johnson's jumper with 3 seconds left gave Purdue the win.
Johnson, who finished with 25 points, was wide open after an inbounds pass and calmly drained an 18-footer from the right wing.
E'Twaun Moore added 16 points for Purdue (16-3, 5-1 Big Ten). He shot 7 for 15 from the field after shooting a combined 8 for 32 in losses at Minnesota and West Virginia.
Jeff Brooks had 19 points and eight rebounds and David Jackson added 13 points for Penn State (10-8, 3-4). Talor Battle, the Big Ten's leading scorer, finished with 14 points on 5-for-15 shooting. He shot 6 for 22 in Purdue's 83-68 win over the Nittany Lions on Jan. 5.
Penn State has beaten ranked teams Michigan State and Illinois at home and lost 69-66 at No. 1 Ohio State on Saturday.
Jackson's 3-pointer with 19 seconds left gave Penn State a 62-61 lead.
No. 16 Notre Dame 66, No. 25 Cincinnati 58
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Tyrone Nash and Ben Hansbrough led five scorers in double figures with 13 points each and injured senior Carleton Scott made a surprise return for Notre Dame.
Reserve Sean Kilpatrick scored 16 points, including seven straight with 7 minutes, to play for the Bearcats (16-3, 3-3 Big East). Cincinnati made three 3-pointers late and used an 8-0 run to close the deficit to five points with 1:12 to go.
But Notre Dame (15-4, 4-3) went 7 for 8 from the free throw line the rest of the way.
Out since injuring his hamstring in a Jan. 1 loss at Syracuse, Scott hit both shots he attempted, two 3-pointers.
Hansbrough, who was 1 for 8 from the field, finished 11 for 12 from the free throw line.
No. 19 Louisville 88, St. John's 63
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Preston Knowles scored 25 points and Kyle Kuric added 20 for Louisville.
Peyton Siva bounced back after being benched in a win over Marquette last Saturday to score 10 points and hand out a career-high 10 assists as the Cardinals (15-3, 4-1 Big East) dealt the Red Storm (11-6, 4-3) their worst loss of the season.
The Cardinals shot 53 percent (33 of 62) from the field and made 12 3-pointers despite playing without center Terrence Jennings, who missed the game with a hip injury.
Paris Horne had 13 points for the Red Storm, who turned it over a season-high 25 times.
Marshall 75, No. 21 West Virginia 71
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Damier Pitts tied a career high with 25 points and Marshall nearly blew a 24-point lead before holding off West Virginia.
Marshall (13-5) broke a four-game losing streak to its cross-state rival.
West Virginia (12-5) couldn't dig out of a hole it created by getting into early foul trouble and going more than 11 minutes without a field goal spanning both halves.
By then, Marshall's guard-oriented offense under first-year coach Tom Herrion had built a 47-23 lead before the taller Mountaineers mounted a comeback, getting as close as 72-69 in the final minute.
Redshirt freshman DeAndre Kane added 18 points for Marshall.
Casey Mitchell led West Virginia, which moved into the Top 25 for the first time this season on Monday, with 18 points.
No. 22 Saint Mary's 67, San Diego 56
MORAGA, Calif. (AP) - Rob Jones had 18 points and 13 rebounds in his first game against his former team and Saint Mary's celebrated its first ranking in nearly two years.
Mickey McConnell scored 17 points and Matthew Dellavedova added 12 to help coach Randy Bennett earn his 200th career win as the Gaels (17-2, 5-0 West Coast Conference) won their 11th straight game. Saint Mary's is ranked for the first time since also being No. 22 on Jan. 26, 2009.
Darian Norris scored 14 points for the Toreros (3-16, 0-5), who have lost five straight games.
Jones spent his first two years at San Diego, helping the Toreros reach the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2008. But he left San Diego before last season to move closer to home and eventually landed at Saint Mary's.
