TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Derwin Kitchen scored 22 points and unranked Florida State pulled off its latest upset of No. 1 Duke, snapping the Blue Devils' 25-game winning streak with a 66-61 victory Wednesday night.
Chris Singleton added 18 points for Florida State (12-5, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), which made five free throws in the final 33 seconds to hold off the defending national champions. It was the third time since 2002 that the Seminoles beat a top-ranked Duke team at home.
The Blue Devils (15-1, 2-1) hadn't lost since a 79-72 setback on March 3, 2010, at Maryland. From there, they went on to win the ACC and NCAA tournaments for their fourth national title.
The 25-game winning streak was the second-longest in Duke history.
The Seminoles led by as many as 11 early in the second half, but the game was tight to the finish.
Kyle Singler scored 20 points and Nolan Smith had 19 for the Blue Devils, who missed their first 10 3-point attempts and shot 31.1 percent overall, ending their run at a perfect season.
It was the fourth time Florida State has defeated a top-ranked team, including in 2002 and 2006 against Duke. Kitchen, a 6-foot-4 senior guard, scored 17 in the second half and led the Seminoles with 10 rebounds.
No. 2 Ohio State 68, Michigan 64
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - William Buford scored 19 points and Ohio State went on a 12-0 run in the second half before holding off Michigan.
New Michigan football coach Brady Hoke arrived with athletic director Dave Brandon moments after the opening tip and immediately began firing up the crowd, pointing at the student sections and raising his right fist. Hoke was introduced during an early timeout and waved to the fans.
The Wolverines (11-6, 1-3 Big Ten) rallied from a 53-41 deficit, pulling within 64-62 when Zack Novak made two free throws with 22.3 seconds left. Michigan then fouled Buford, who made a pair of free throws with 18.6 seconds to play.
David Lighty and Jared Sullinger scored 12 points each for the Buckeyes (17-0, 4-0).
Darius Morris scored 18 points and Novak had 16 for Michigan. Evan Smotrycz scored 14 points for the Wolverines, including a 3-pointer that made it 41-all soon after halftime.
No. 3 Kansas 84, Iowa State 79
AMES, Iowa (AP) - Marcus Morris set career highs with 33 points and 13 rebounds, Markieff Morris added 17 points and Kansas held off Iowa State to win its 20th straight conference opener.
Josh Selby added 14 points for the Jayhawks (16-0, 1-0 Big 12), who never trailed in picking up their 11th straight win over the Cyclones.
Marcus Morris drilled an open jumper to put the Jayhawks ahead by seven with 1:55 to go, and Markieff Morris followed with a putback that made it 78-69 with just over a minute left.
Diante Garrett had 27 points for Iowa State (13-4, 0-2 Big 12), which shot just 9 of 32 from 3-point range and was outscored in the paint 42-26.
No. 4 Syracuse 76, St. John's 59
NEW YORK (AP) - Kris Joseph scored 18 points and No. 4 Syracuse remained undefeated by beating St. John's at Madison Square Garden.
The Orange (17-0, 4-0 Big East) are off to the second-best start in school history thanks to the 2-3 zone defense they have used so effectively for years.
Syracuse, one of five unbeaten Division I teams entering the day, held the Red Storm (10-5, 3-2) to 36.8 percent shooting.
The win was the 1,800th in school history, fifth on the all-time list in Division I, and 846 of them have been under coach Jim Boeheim. Syracuse has won five straight.
Justin Brownlee had 13 points for St. John's, 1-2 in its stretch of eight consecutive games against ranked opponents.
No. 5 Pittsburgh 72, No. 22 Georgetown 57
WASHINGTON (AP) - Ashton Gibbs hit five 3-pointers and scored 22 points, and No. 5 Pittsburgh broke open the game early and remained unbeaten in the Big East with a win over No. 22 Georgetown.
Brad Wanamaker added 14 points and Gilbert Brown had 12 for the Panthers, who shot 58 percent in the first half to build a 17-point halftime lead. Pitt (16-1, 4-0) has won six straight overall.
Chris Wright scored 14 points for the slumping Hoyas (12-5, 1-4), who have lost three straight and are off to their worst conference start since 1998-99.
No. 6 San Diego State 55, UNLV 49
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Kawhi Leonard had 15 points and a season-high 17 rebounds, and Malcolm Thomas also had a double-double as undefeated San Diego State beat UNLV to become the first team in the country to win 18 games.
The Aztecs' school-record 18-game streak is the longest current winning streak in the nation. SDSU (3-0 Mountain West) is one of four undefeated teams in Division I.
Thomas had 14 points and tied his season high with 16 rebounds.
It was Steve Fisher's 400th career victory, against 231 losses. Fisher, who led Michigan to the 1989 national championship, has turned the Aztecs into the hottest ticket in San Diego in his 12th season.
UNLV (13-4, 1-2) trailed 28-26 at halftime before going cold in the second half.
No. 7 Villanova 88, No. 18 Louisville 74
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Corey Stokes scored 23 points and Mouphtaou Yarou had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 7 Villanova over No. 18 Louisville for its 10th straight win.
Corey Fisher scored 17 points and Maalik Wayns had 15 for the Wildcats, who beat their second straight Top 25 team. The Wildcats (15-1, 4-0 Big East) defeated then-No. 24 Cincinnati on Sunday and haven't lost since Nov. 26.
The Wildcats resisted turning the game into a complete 3-point exhibition after Louisville (13-3, 2-1) was sharp early.
Preston Knowles scored 24 points for the Cardinals.
No. 14 Texas A&M 71, Oklahoma State 48
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Nathan Walkup and David Loubeau each scored 16 points and No. 14 Texas A&M extended its winning streak to 12 games with a victory over Oklahoma State.
The streak is the third-longest in Texas A&M history. The Aggies haven't lost since a 67-65 defeat by Boston College on Thanksgiving.
The Aggies (15-1, 2-0 Big 12) led by six at halftime and didn't trail in the second half.
Oklahoma State (13-3, 1-1) got 11 points from Ray Penn. Marshall Moses had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
No. 15 Missouri 77, Nebraska 69
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Marcus Denmon made five 3-pointers and matched his career best with 27 points, helping No. 15 Missouri end Nebraska's 11-game winning streak.
Ricardo Ratliffe added 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Tigers (15-2, 1-1 Big 12), who bounced back from a 13-point loss at Colorado. They succeeded playing at Nebraska's half-court style for the most part, and became the second team to top 70 points against the Cornhuskers.
Toney McCray had 17 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers for Nebraska (13-2, 1-1), which held its first 10 opponents under 60 points before beating Iowa State in the conference opener.
No. 19 Temple 83, St Bonaventure 55
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ramone Moore scored 13 of his 19 points in the last 5:17 of the first half and No. 19 Temple beat St. Bonaventure.
Temple has won the last 14 games in the series and all 31 of its home games against the Bonnies. The Owls (12-3, 3-0 Atlantic 10) have won nine of 10 overall.
Andrew Nicholson, who leads the A-10 in scoring at 22.4 points per game, was held to 12 after scoring 34 in the Bonnies' league-opening win over Charlotte on Saturday.
Michael Davenport led St. Bonaventure (9-6, 1-1) with 13 points, and Ogo Adegboye and Demitrius Conger each had 11.
Colorado 74, No. 21 Kansas State 66
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Levi Knutson scored 20 points, Alec Burks added 12 and Colorado beat Kansas State for its first road win against a ranked team in 14 years.
The resurgent Buffaloes (13-4, 2-0 Big 12) were coming off an 89-76 victory over Missouri that was their first win over a ranked team in almost seven years.
Marcus Relphorde also had 12 points for Colorado, which erased an 11-point deficit in the first half and led the whole way in the second to snap a nine-game losing streak against the Wildcats (12-5, 0-2).
Jacob Pullen scored 22 points for Kansas State.
Vanderbilt 73, No. 24 Georgia 66
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - John Jenkins and Festus Ezeli scored 18 points apiece and Vanderbilt beat No. 24 Georgia to snap the Bulldogs' nine-game winning streak and ruin their first game back in the Top 25 since the end of the 2003 season.
The Commodores (12-3, 1-1) bounced back after opening Southeastern Conference play with an overtime loss at South Carolina that knocked them out of the rankings. They took the lead from the start and never trailed while improving to 52-13 against the Bulldogs at home.
Georgia (12-3, 1-1) never got closer than three in the second half. Travis Leslie led the Bulldogs with 21 points, Gerald Robinson added 20 and Trey Thompkins had 13.
Jeffery Taylor had 15 points for Vandy. Ezeli had a double-double, also grabbing 10 rebounds.
No. 25 Cincinnati 74, South Florida 66
CINCINNATI (AP) - Redshirt freshman Sean Kilpatrick scored 18 points, giving No. 25 Cincinnati some spark in a listless game, and the Bearcats bounced back from their first loss of the season by beating South Florida.
Cincinnati (16-1, 3-1 Big East) was coming off a 72-61 loss at Villanova that ended its 15-0 start, tied for second-best in school history.
South Florida (6-12, 0-5) made several runs and cut the deficit to four twice, but faded and lost its seventh in a row. Ron Anderson Jr. had a team-high 13 points.
