Fenton woman dies from tornado injuries

FENTON, Mo. (AP) — An eastern Missouri woman injured during a New Year’s Eve storm that brought tornadoes to Missouri and Illinois has died of her injuries.

A spokeswoman for St. Anthony’s Medical Center says 70-year-old Margaret Birkes of Fenton say she died Monday morning at St. Anthony’s Medical Center.

Birkes’ relatives say the storm picked up her car while she was driving on Highway 141 near Fenton.

The Dec. 31 storms spawned tornadoes that did serious damage to Rolla, Fort Leonard Wood, Robertsville and Sunset Hills near St. Louis. Four other people died in Missouri, three others died in Arkansas.
