Schweich takes reins as new auditor

Former ambassador and U.S. Sen. John Danforth told about 100 people Monday afternoon that “it’s highly likely that” new state Auditor Tom Schweich “will drive all of you in state government ‘nuts’ — but, then, it’s the job of a good auditor to drive people ‘nuts.’”

Danforth was the keynote speaker at Monday’s mid-day ceremonies in the Capitol Rotunda, where Schweich was inaugurated as Missouri’s 36th auditor.

Schweich, 50, a St. Louis Republican, author and university professor, defeated Democrat Susan Montee last November in her bid for a second term.
