Stocky man robs, carjacks woman at knifepoint

Jefferson City police are looking for a suspect in a Thursday morning robbery.

According to police reports, a heavyset black male, wearing all black clothing and armed with a knife, approached a 36-year-old woman about 9:10 a.m. as she left Missouri Insurance Associates, 316 Jackson St.

He put the knife to the woman’s throat and took her car keys. He eventually did get away with the car, a silver Pontiac G-6, Missouri license WC6K7D, and drove away in an unknown direction.

The suspect also got away with the victim’s purse.

The victim was from the Rocky Mount area so, in addition to searching in Jefferson City, police notified authorities in the Rocky Mount area also to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

The victim was unharmed.

Anyone with information that might help authorities with this case is urged to call police at 634-6400 or the Crimestoppers Hotline at 659-TIPS.

This woman had the choice to be carrying a firearm. Even if she didn't have a permit to conceal one, she is allowed in Jefferson City to carry one openly in a holster on her side. It still might not have kept a person from getting the jump on her but chances are if that crook would have seen a weapon on her in the first place, he would have sought out a softer target. Do you ever hear of police officers getting mugged if their purse, wallet or cars while they are openly carrying? If you choose to carry concealed or openly in Missouri, familiarize yourself with the laws associated with protecting yourself. You don't need a permit to openly carry a holstered firearm in Jefferson City.

How many insurance agents you know carry a weapon or firearm into their own office or place of bussiness? She is an insurance agent that was merely doing the job she's done for countless years now. It's not like she was walking down the street & this happened. She was sitting at her desk, the man came in, politely sat down, asked for a price qoute. Then as she went to gather info he pulled the knife on her. She defended herself well enough to save her life, without a gun. Forget the cash, purse, car, etc. She is a very brave and intellegent individual that unfortunately scum of this earth pray apon.

I have been told the car has been found and going through police search as we speak. She is doing just fine as well.

Well, one things for sure, if alot more did maybe the guy would have picked on another victim. If she did, maybe she could have prevented it. We don't expect our homes to burn down but we insure them. We don't put our kids in car seats because we expect an accident. Choosing to better protect yourself from violence by carrying a weapon yourself is a choice to help make you safer in case of the unexpected. Its just another available option to many of us. This is a reminder that not all crime happens to people in the wrong part of a town or in a back alley in the middle of the night.

She's lucky and thanfully the man chose not to take her along with the car or commit unspeakable horrors in that office or somewhere else. Hopefully this man is caught soon or dispatched by his next intended target before he commits more acts of violence.
