Greening America’s Capitals forums set

This week, the public is invited to participate in discussions about sustainable ways Jefferson City can develop the Wears Creek and Millbottom area through the EPA’s new Greening America’s Capitals program.

Jefferson City was selected as one of five capital cities last fall to receive sustainable design assistance.

All public forums will be held in the police training room located in the rear entrance of the police department, 401 Monroe St.

The days, times and subject of the forums are:

• Wednesday: 4-5:30 p.m., Public Participation and Discussion.

• Thursday: 5-7:30 p.m., Public Participation and Discussion.

• Friday: 11 a.m., Community Introduction of Plan.

Other capital cities awarded assistance included Hartford, Conn.; Charleston, W.Va.; Boston; and Little Rock, Ark.

The EPA has organized teams of urban planners and landscape architects to provide direct, customized service to Jefferson City.

The Greening America’s Capitals program is designed to create interesting, unique neighborhoods with multiple social, economic, environmental and public health benefits.
