Appropriations chairman warns against state health care changes

Senate Appropriations Chairman Kurt Schaefer warned the Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan on Monday afternoon it needs to slow down efforts to change the definition of "generic" drugs.

"I've got to tell you," Schaefer, R-Columbia, told MCHCP Director Rick Bowles, "until you get some public comment and you have a public hearing on that rule, I think it would be an enormous mistake on your part to move forward with that rule."

On its website, at www.mchcp.org/Plan News/Formulary_2011.asp, MCHCP administrators tell state employees covered by the plan: "Each therapeutic drug class represented on the formulary contains a selection of lowest-cost drugs that meet Express Scripts' strict clinical standards. ..."
