Man gets 6 life terms for rape, robbery

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A Greene County judge has sentenced a man to six life sentences for convictions on rape and robbery charges.

Judge Thomas Mountjoy on Friday sentenced Melvin Green to six consecutive life sentences for the attacks in 1995. Green was convicted of forcible rape, two counts of forcible sodomy and three counts of robbery.

He was charged in 2006 when DNA taken from him for a case in Illinois matched the DNA from the Springfield crime scene that had been entered in a national database.

The Springfield News-Leader reported that Green was accused of entering the family's apartment, sexually assaulting two sisters for hours and then stealing an engagement ring and money.
