Judge closes hearings on motions to suppress evidence
The trial for a St. Martins teenager accused of killing a 9-year-old neighbor has been rescheduled for June 1.
Court records show Cole County Presiding Circuit Judge Pat Joyce ordered the delay after a verbal defense motion for a continuance during a Thursday afternoon meeting with prosecutors and defense attorneys.
Alyssa Bustamante, now 17, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Oct. 21, 2009, death of Elizabeth Olten.
Her trial previously had been scheduled to begin May 16.
The jury will be chosen in Greene County, but the trial will be held in Cole County.
