Southwest Missouri animal hoarder gets probation

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri woman has been sentenced to two years of probation after being found guilty of 75 more misdemeanor counts of animal abuse.

Sixty-three-year-old Virginia Gambriel of Pleasant Hope faces jail time if she fails to comply with the terms of probation ordered Monday in Greene County Circuit Court. Those conditions include that she submit to random inspections, get counseling for animal hoarding at her own expense and pay $500 in restitution to the Humane Society of Missouri.

Last March authorities found more than 75 animals on property she owned in Greene County. The animals included 40 dogs and 13 cats.

Gambriel had a previous animal abuse conviction after 370 animals were removed from her Pleasant Hope home in August 2008.
