VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Mikael Samuelsson scored his second goal into an empty net and added an assist as the streaking Vancouver Canucks built an early lead and hung on for a 4-2 win over the struggling Ottawa Senators on Monday night.
Ryan Kesler had a goal and assist, Alex Burrows also scored, and Mason Raymond added three assists as Vancouver won its sixth straight game.
Roberto Luongo made 31 saves for the Canucks, who only have two regulation losses in the last two months (21-2-6). They extended their lead atop the NHL to four points, and remained nine points up on Detroit for first in the Western Conference.
Nick Foligno and Jason Spezza scored less than 2 minutes apart in the second period to pull Ottawa to 3-2.
Coyotes 3, Avalanche 0
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 26 shots for his second straight shutout and Radim Vrbata scored twice for Phoenix.
Bryzgalov had 25 saves in a 1-0 win over Minnesota on Saturday and followed that with another sterling performance to give Phoenix consecutive shutouts for the first time since Brian Boucher set the modern-day NHL record with five straight in 2003-04.
Scottie Upshall also scored for the Coyotes.
Flames 3, Blackhawks 1
CALGARY (AP) - Curtis Glencross scored the winner in the third period and Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside 22 shots for Calgary.
Mikael Backlund also scored and Rene Bourque got an empty-netter for the Flames, who moved into a playoff spot in the Western Conference for the first time since Oct. 29.
Patrick Kane scored for Chicago. The defending Stanley Cup champions have lost four of their last five and sit tenth in the West.
Red Wings 3, Rangers 2
DETROIT (AP) - Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist for Detroit after missing 19 games with a broken right wrist.
Jiri Hudler and Drew Miller also scored for the Red Wings and Jimmy Howard had 45 saves.
Brandon Dubinsky scored with 4:05 left in the game to pull the Rangers within a goal, and they failed to tie it despite being on the power play to end the game.
Derek Stepan had New York's other goal and Martin Biron stopped 32 shots.
Maple Leafs 5, Thrashers 4
TORONTO (AP) - Nikolai Kulemin and Tim Brent each scored third-period goals to lift Toronto.
Dion Phaneuf, Mikhail Grabovski and Clarke MacArthur also scored for the Leafs, who played another high-scoring game against Atlanta. The teams have combined for 30 goals in three meetings this season.
Dustin Byfuglien, Evander Kane, Nik Antropov and Andrew Ladd scored for the Thrashers, who are 2-7-4 in their last 13 games to fall out of the top eight in the Eastern Conference.
Oilers 4, Predators 0
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Edmonton's Devan Dubnyk had 37 saves for his first career shutout.
Andrew Cogliano, Ryan Jones, Jim Vandermeer, and Dustin Penner scored for the Oilers, who snapped a four game losing streak.
Dubnyk had to be sharp early with Nashville holding a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal through the first 10 minutes of the first period.
The Predators dropped their fifth in six games.
