A panic alarm at a local hotel Wednesday led to the arrest of a Jefferson City man on heroin and child endangerment charges.
At about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jefferson City police officers responded to a panic alarm at Econo Lodge, 1926 Jefferson St. An officer observed a male walking out of the lobby, acting suspiciously and carrying a broomstick.
The officer confronted the subject, and for his safety conducted a pat-down search.
During the search, 10 individually wrapped bags of heroin were found on the suspect.
As a result of that seizure, further information was discovered, and it was found the suspect had a room rented at the hotel.
A search warrant was obtained for the room, and a number of other persons, including children, were found in the room.
In addition, narcotics paraphernalia used for smoking heroin was found in the room.
The suspect, Gregory Williams, was arrested for possession with intent to distribute narcotics (heroin) and three counts of child endangerment.
