Your Opinion: Rendering unto God and government
Thursday, August 25, 2011
One letter submitter used a portion of Scripture when he quoted, “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.” Why isn’t this true with progressives? These people think it is a good thing for the government to take more of our money for dubious programs, but they don’t even come close to what Scripture tells us what was expected of us to give to the church.
If 10 percent is good enough for God, why isn’t it good enough for government? The 10 percent rule is for people of all incomes, not just the “wealthy.” We cannot take the example of our exalted leader in the giving category as his 2009 tax return as posted on the White House web site indicates that the Obama’s adjusted gross income was $5,505,409, not bad for the worst president in my lifetime. His charitable giving amounted to $329,100 which is a good amount, but when you look at where the money went, only a total of $450 went to two different churches.
I thought that Scripture said that we were to give 10 percent to the church? Four hundred and fifty dollars is far from 10 percent of $5.5 million, even if you use the “new” math.
Not to be left out, the vice perpetrator in charge, had an adjusted gross income of $333,182 with charitable contributions of $4,820. Of that amount $340 went to a church.
Progressives are a unique breed as they want you and I to pay more in taxes, but they give very little of their own money to anything but themselves.
