Ex-Tropical Storm Franklin weakens, far from land
Saturday, August 13, 2011
MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say former Tropical Storm Franklin continues to weaken as it crosses the north Atlantic Ocean, well away from land.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center said late Saturday evening that the storm was centered about 435 miles south of Cape Race, Newfoundland. It had maximum sustained winds of about 40 mph and was moving east-northeast at 26 mph.
The storm is expected to turn toward the east and then gradually weaken on Sunday, followed by a turn southeast on Monday. It does not pose any threat to land and is expected to keep moving over open waters.
