Attending her second public meeting with her parents, Steve and Lisa May, Indra said she was excited about the “academies” concept, an integral part of all three options proposed by the 40-member Secondary Schools Study Committee.

Kansas City had magnet "themed" schools several years ago and ditched them after spending millions of tax dollars on the concept that failed to educate their students properly.
Is this really what JCPS wants?

This is not a magnet school, please take the time to learn and ask questions about this system. The academy concept allows the JCHS to maintain its identity while taking the large faceless crowd of students and turning it into smaller separate units were the kids can find their identities and be more involved in their high school education. By focusing the students learning on a topic they are already interested in, they are more likely to succeed. Perhaps the school district could add a "What is an academy?" answer to the FAQs page on the website. They have their work cut out for them in this traditional community.

just look at all the controversy about a tattoo shop in downtown JC. don't dare to disagree about the results of the voting.
that being said, i wish they had something like this when i was in High school. the HS didn't even have AC, how backwards is that?

i thought they still try to ferret out the ones they consider non-conformists. they finally added middle schools, which was too late for me, being a senior. thus you had state of the art middle schools, with a out of date high school. but there is improvement, i just hope the students take advantage of it. i fear JC will be experiencing a brain drain, if not already. most people in my class moved out of JC, and the state.

hopefully that will let the kids with a dream and a future separate from the "gangsta trash" thats been coming out of there, i feel sorry for the kids trying to get an education here having to put up with all the drama.

I agree with you. It seems this proposal will allow students who want to learn be grouped with other students wanting to learn. Right now the 'trash' can interrupt the classroom and their is nothing they can do about it. Sad. It did not used to be like that.
