Healthplex sposoring healthy challenge

If you want to lose weight, commit to a healthy lifestyle and potentially live longer, you may be a candidate for the Mid-Missouri Healthy Challenge, sponsored by the Capital Region Sam B. Cook Healthplex.

Contestants in the program will learn about proper nutrition and how to exercise safely and effectively. While weight loss is a goal, the true measures of success are reducing risks for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension, among others.

Four people will be selected for the program. In addition to access to Healthplex staff, each challenger will receive:

• Two personal training sessions each week with an exercise physiologist at the Capital Region Healthplex.

• Lab work for cholesterol and glucose levels.

• Wellness mentor.

• Enrollment in the New Dimensions Weight Management program.

• A three-month membership to the Healthplex.

• Health assessments.

• Workout shirt.

Challengers will be selected from applications submitted by May 5. A panel of experts will make the selections based on the individual's need to improve their lifestyle and their commitment to doing so.

Applications are available at Capital Region Medical Center's homepage, www.crmc.org; and they can be picked up in person at the Healthplex, 1432 Southwest Blvd. Completed applications can be dropped off at the Healthplex or mailed to: Attn: Amy Berendzen, marketing/public relations, Capital Region Medical Center, P.O. Box 1128, Jefferson City, MO, 65102-1128.
