Mo. district uses Saturday to make up snow days

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. (AP) - Officials in a southwest Missouri school district say attendance was lower than normal but better than expected when they held classes on Saturday.

About 82 percent of students showed up for the Saturday session in Carl Junction, part of an effort to make up for this year's high number of snow days.

KOAM-TV reports the district will also hold a half-day session on Friday, which had been scheduled as a day off for Good Friday.

The Carl Junction School Board voted last month to hold the April 16 and Good Friday sessions rather than extend the school year past Memorial Day. The decision was made after a survey of parents and staff members drew a generally positive response.
