JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri House members are taking an unusual break with less than a month remaining in the legislative session.
House leaders canceled the standard Monday afternoon session. Lawmakers typically meet for floor debates from Monday afternoon through Thursday.
The abbreviated legislative work week comes amid a dispute between the House and Senate about a proposal to redraw the state's congressional districts. House leaders sought a formal negotiation between the two chambers, but the Senate did not respond before adjourning last week.
Several House committees still have hearings scheduled Monday, and the chamber planned a technical floor session. That allows lawmakers who come for the committee hearing to receive their per diem pay.
