CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. (AP) - A 50-year-old southeast Missouri man is accused of fatally shooting a 29-year-old man during a fight.
Charles Cecil was charged Thursday in Pemiscot County with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Stephen "Stevie" Francis Smith. Both are from Caruthersville.
The Daily Dunklin Democrat reported that the shooting happened Wednesday.
City Marshal Chris Riggs said that when investigators arrived to the scene, they found Smith lying on the front porch of a home. Emergency responders were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead.
Officers investigating the shooting followed a trail of blood left to a house next door where investigators believe Smith was shot.
Cecil was found inside the home. No attorney was listed for Cecil in online court records.
