Christopher Pickett used to hate himself.

He had reached rock bottom, but never wanted to humble himself to the place he went eight weeks ago.

After breaking up with his girlfriend and with only a part-time job to fall back on, Pickett had nowhere to live.

He went to the Salvation Army Center of Hope to try to find a bed, but was somewhat relieved they couldn't offer him one at first.

He wasn't really ready to accept help from any one, he said, so he decided to go it alone, sleeping in his car.

This was nothing new to Pickett - he had often been kicked out of his house as a teenager.
