Owner to keep 16 of 196 animals rescued in March

FARMINGTON, Mo. (AP) - An agreement with prosecutors will allow an eastern Missouri woman to keep 16 of the 196 animals seized in a raid at her property last month.

The Park Hills Daily Journal reports that Diana Blackwell of St. Francois County agreed to give up custody of the remaining 183 animals to the Humane Society of Missouri. As part of the agreement, Blackwell must allow the sheriff's department to visit her property without notice once a month to check on the welfare of her animals, unless her license as an animal rescuer is restored.

The animals were removed in a raid on March 15.
