Lincoln softball swept in doubleheader

Give the Lincoln softball team credit for at least one thing: The Blue Tigers are consistent in their inconsistency.

Emporia State came into Friday's doubleheader with the Blue Tigers at Lincoln Field ranked 16th in the country and tied for the lead in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

The Blue Tigers gave the Hornets all they could handle in the opener before falling 7-3, only to lose the nightcap 11-0 in a five-inning, run-rule game.

"That's been our struggle the whole year," Lincoln coach Nicole Stacey said. "I literally call us the Bipolar Tigers, because I don't know what team is going to come out, I don't know who's going to fight, I don't know what pitching I can count on. Then hitting, we'll come out and hit and then the other game we don't look like we've ever picked up a bat.

"That is our struggle, we're a very fickle team this year. That's what's going to kill us. We can play with any of these teams (on the schedule) when we're on."
